PLAYground Festival - The Worries of Wesley
The Worries of Wesley by Jessica Moss
Directed by Ruby Chao
A young girl learns to deal with her anxiety in a highly theatrical piece that involves personified Brains and Hearts, with an extended fourth wall break halfway through where the actors themselves learn (with the help of the audience) how to soothe their anxiety.
PLAYground Festival - ¡Lotería: Game On!
¡Lotería: Game On! by Maybelle Reynoso
Directed by Nini Bagundo
A pair of siblings follow their mother after she is sucked into the board game “¡Lotería” (otherwise known as Mexican Bingo), and must use all their skills (and even their flaws) to get her back before she’s stuck in the game forever. This is a tale about family, love, adventure and joy! We are here to embrace and celebrate identity, culture and maybe even learn new words!
PLAYground Festival - The Transfer Student
The Transfer Student by Jeff Jenkins and Anne Negri
Directed by Lexi Yoon Kim
Maya has just arrived in a new school, and despite her parents’ fears, she's sure that everything will work out okay this time. However, when faced with either hiding her identity or being rejected by her new community, she stands strong and embraces who she truly is.

Digging up Dessa
Purple Crayon Players presents Digging up Dessa, a play by Laura Schellhardt recommended for fifth to eighth graders that touches upon female empowerment, women in stem, and learning to advocate for oneself.
In Digging up Dessa, 12-year old Dessa, a “hunter of fossils,” is sure that the move to her new town will be a disaster. She struggles to communicate with her mom now that her dad is gone. As a paleontologist, even the location of her front yard, a construction zone, is disappointing. After an incident at the Natural History Museum involving the lack of women scientists mentioned on the wall, Dessa partners with Nilo, a confident boy at her new school, in the science fair. With some help from Nilo and her imaginary confidant Mary Anning, a 19th century British Paleontologist, Dessa searches for a new fossil from her own backyard. Along the way, Dessa devotes herself toward increasing female representation in the sciences and finds a way to communicate her feelings to her mom.
We can’t wait to see you there!
